UK Government issue warning about wildfires

Good Evening,

For those who haven't received the alert, the UK Government have issued an emergency alert to mobile phones this evening.

‘There is a very high risk of wildfires nationally. Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake any activity that could start a fire, including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks. Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.’

As neighbourhood officers we encourage all of our residents to follow the government guidance, in addition please be cautious in the disposal of cigarettes. The council waste bins around our public spaces have designated ashtrays as well as our public buildings who will have dedicated disposal areas.

If you notice any signs of a fire anywhere around our city please dial 999 and ask for the fire brigade, please don't assume someone else has done, fires can and will spread quickly due the dryness.
